LOVE AND ROMANCE IN ISLAM

Love and romance in Islam

by http://jamiat.org.za

The IBA Iqra Society invited Sheikh Kamaluddin Ahmed’s wife ‘Alimah Sobia Ahmed’ on the 22nd of November, 2010 to deliver a lecture on the topic Romance in Islam. The following is an edited version of the notes prepared by Maliha Abidi during the lecture. It also includes some points from a lecture delivered by Alimah Sobia Qasim (a student of the speaker) at a summer program in Karachi called Footsteps.

The word “Muhabbat” comes from the Arabic word “Hubb(a)”, which literally means seed; a seed that every human being has. That is, it is important for us to realize that love (or rather, feeling (verb)) is a function of the heart, just like seeing is the function of the eye.

Jewish Scholar Moved by the Prophet's Forbearance

Zaid ibn Su`nah Accepts Islam

By Reading Islam Staff (Onislam.net)

The blessed Companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Abdullah ibn Salam narrates that when Allah willed to guide Zaid ibn Su`nah (the great Jewish scholar of Madinah), Zaid ibn Su`nah said:
"I recognized all of the signs of prophethood upon seeing the face of Muhammad save two signs that were not immediately evident:
That his forbearance would precede his rashness, and that his forbearance would increase upon encountering excessive rashness."
Zaid ibn Su`nah reports [the story as follows]:
"One day, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came out from his apartment with `Ali ibn Abi Talib. A Bedouin, riding his camel, came to him and said:

Al-Husayn ibn Salam was a Jewish rabbi in Yathrib [Madinah] who was widely respected and honored by the people of the city, even by those who were not Jewish. He was known for his piety and goodness, his upright conduct, and his truthfulness.

Al-Husayn lived a peaceful and gentle life but he was serious, purposeful and organized in the way he spent his time. For a fixed period each day, he would worship, teach and preach in the temple.

Then he would spend some time in his orchard, looking after date palms, pruning and pollinating. Thereafter, to increase his understanding and knowledge of his religion, he would devote himself to the study of the Torah.

MUSLIM MEN CAN MARRY JEWISH OR CHRISTIAN WOMEN

MUSLIM MEN CAN MARRY JEWISH OR CHRISTIAN WOMEN, WHILE MUSLIM WOMEN CAN NOT MARRY NON-MUSLIM MEN

 by Syarif Hidayat

It goes without saying that the marriage of a Muslim woman to a non-Muslim man remains to be one of the main hot issues in debates about interfaith marriage according to Islam.

According to a broad consensus religiously sterile, a Muslim woman is formally forbidden to marry a non-Muslim man regardless of his religion, while a Muslim man is allowed to get married to a non Muslim woman, mainly a Christian or a Jew, considered by the Islamic schools as “People of the Book”.

BEING FREE FROM SIN THROUGH HAJJ

Being free from sin through Hajj

by Shaykhul Hadeeth Muhammad Zakariyya

Abu Hurayrah radhiyallahu anhu reports that Rasoolullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam said “Whoever performs Hajj for the sake of pleasing Allah and therein utters no word of evil, nor commits any evil deed, shall return from it as free from sin as the day on which his mother gave birth to him.”

When a child is ushered into this world, it enters this life without any blemish and is free from any form of sin. Now, when the Hajj has been performed with utmost sincerity for Allah’s sake, the pilgrim returns to that sinless state.

by resulullah.org

“The hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say “This is (but) transient magic.” (1)

In this article, we are going to give information about how the miracle of the splitting of the moon, which is a clear sign of the verse of the Qur’an, occurred and seen in all authentic hadith as well as in sirah sources at the degree of Mutawatir manawi and we will also try to answer some questions that may come to the mind.

UK: BRITISH MUSLIM WOMEN FIGHT ISLAMOPHOBIA WITH FAITH

UK: British Muslim women fight Islamophobia with faith

by worldbulletin.net

When youth worker Sumreen Farooq was abused in a London street, the 18-year-old decided it was time to take a stand – and she started to wear a headscarf.

Farooq is one of many young Muslim women living in Britain who have, for various reasons, chosen to adopt the headscarf to declare their faith to all around them, despite figures showing rising violence against visibly identifiable Muslims.

For despite a common view that young Muslim women are forced to wear veils by men or their families, studies and interviews point to the opposite in Muslim minority countries where it is often the case that the women themselves choose to cover up.
