Random acts of kindness by Muslim faithful too often ignored

by Rahat Husain, Communities Digital News(May 16, 2014)

This week, after a young Muslim man in a Saudi hospital tweeted that he had been paralyzed and was sad at the lack of visitors, hundreds of locals lined his hallways with gifts and promises to pay for his medical care. The episode, and many others, offsets the constant deluge of negative focus directed at the world’s 1.2 billion Muslims.

HERE ARE SOME RULES AND WAYS TO BE HAPPY

HERE ARE SOME RULES AND PROVEN WAYS TO BE HAPPY

by Syarif Hidayat

What is happiness? Even though happiness is perhaps one of the most important things in life, science still can not explain much about it.  Its concept itself is elusive.  Is it an idea, emotion, virtue, philosophy, ideal, or is it just programmed in the genes?  There is no agreed upon definition for it, yet  still everyone seems to be selling happiness these days - drug dealers, pharmaceutical companies, Hollywood, toy companies, self-help gurus, and, of course, Disney, creator of the Happiest Place on Earth.

Can happiness really be purchased?  The classical words say: “Money can buy amusements...but it can't buy happiness.” Is happiness achieved by maximizing pleasure, earning fame and fortune, or living a life of unlimited leisure?  The series of articles will briefly explore the evolution of happiness in Western thought, followed by the present cultural understanding in the West.
The Merriam Webster online dictionary defines happiness as a state of well being or contentment, a pleasurable or satisfying experience.  Philosophers often define happiness in terms of living a good life.  Happiness has also been defined as a state of well-being, characterized by emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy.

CHILDREN EDUCATION: BRINGING UP A MORAL CHILD

IT IS EASIER TO TEACH CHILDREN THAN TO BUILD THEIR CHARACTERS

by Syarif Hidayat

It is easy to educate our children to become clever individuals as there are many FINE schools and universities available almost everywhere as long as we have enough money to finance their education. But it is very difficult to build their own characters to become FINE and well-behaved individuals lawfully and religiously!

Beside the caring parents and the good education, they also need good examples from their parents and the society especially the public figures such as honest and well-behaved bureaucrats, politicians, religious leaders as well as the other public figures.

THE POOR THIEF

There was famine in Medina. A hungry Muslim entered a garden and picked dates from the trees and ate them. However, he was caught by the owner of the garden. He was beaten and his garments were impounded in return for the dates he ate. Later on, the poor thief came to the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) along with the owner of the garden, who beat him and took his garments. The poor thief complained to the Prophet about the owner of the garden because of his treatment. The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) listened to both of them and turned to the owner of the garden:
“He was ignorant; you should have taught him; he was hungry;, you should have fed him.”
The owner of the garden gave the garments back to the poor thief and in lieu of the beating, he gave to him a hundred and eighty kilograms of wheat. (1)
